Bears Super Bowl Odds Surge As Simmons Trade Pays Off

Jeffery Simmons' immediate impact in a 34-17 win over Seattle proves the Bears are real contenders. Here is why the Super Bowl odds just jumped.

Aaron Donald finally had a shot at his first career touchdown, and he dropped the ball. Literally. The Rams won 24-9 over the Chargers on Sunday, but the real story happened when the ball hit the turf.

Donald tried to scoop the loose fumble and run it in, only to trip and knock it out of bounds. It was a rare error from a future Hall of Famer. Head coach Sean McVay made it clear he will not let this slide quietly.

The Coach Will Roast Him

Most coaches might pat a veteran legend on the back and move on. Not McVay. He told California Post senior sports reporter Michael Duarte exactly what he plans to do. “Oh man I’m going to give him such a hard time about that,” McVay said to Duarte, according to the New York Post. He saw the play unfold right in front of him.

Donald thought he was going to score, then he made a mistake that cost him his first career touchdown. McVay added, “And then he knocks that s—t out of bounds. I mean, what the hell,” he said. This is not a coach hiding a mistake. This is a coach demanding accountability from his best player.

Donald has never scored a touchdown in his entire NFL career. That record stands for now because of this one bad moment. Wesley Bailey forced the fumble with a sack on Justin Herbert, and the ball landed right where Donald needed it. Instead of a highlight reel play, we got a blooper. The Rams improved to 4-4 with this win, but this specific play will be talked about all week. McVay knows that letting a mistake like this go unchecked sets a bad tone.

Teammates Are Having Fun

The locker room reaction was just as sharp as the coach’s. By mimicking chest compressions to revive him, Donald’s teammates chose to amuse themselves at the expense of the future Hall of Famer. It shows the team knows it can joke about failure without breaking the bond.

“His face, he couldn’t even look at me and make eye contact after that,” McVay said. That image of Donald on the ground, smiling but embarrassed, tells you everything you need to know. He knew he messed up big time.

Even linebacker Byron Young took a playful shot at the star. “I love AD, but he’s getting a little old you know,” Young joked, according to the New York Post. He quickly clarified the intent, saying, “I’m joking, I’m joking. He’s always around the ball.” The Rams defense held the Chargers to just 281 yards on Sunday.

They forced three turnovers, including interceptions by Quentin Lake and Trent McDuffie. The team won, but Donald’s blunder stands out as the most memorable moment. McVay’s plan to tease him is the right call. It keeps the standard high for everyone.
