Clark told reporters on Wednesday that the situation started months ago when his regular caddie Pelekoudas asked if he would be playing during this specific week. Clark initially said he was unsure, but once the decision was made to play, Pelekoudas offered to skip the wedding if that meant he could stay on the bag. Clark refused, telling his caddie to go and enjoy that moment with a best friend.
The Wedding Ultimatum
According to GolfMagic, Brendan Clark jokingly told Wyndham, “I’m caddying for you, otherwise you’re not coming to the wedding.”
Brendan lives in Kansas City while Wyndham calls Arizona home, meaning they do not see each other as often as they would like. Clark noted that having his brother on the bag makes this week a “fun, special week” for both of them to spend quality time together.
Playing for a Honeymoon Fund
According to Golf Post, Wyndham aims to perform strongly this week to assist Brendan with the costs of his forthcoming wedding and honeymoon. Having secured entries for next year’s signature events, the 32-year-old major champion is driven this week by personal reasons instead of competitive need.
Clark has been playing an unusual amount of golf lately, with many fans wondering why he is on the course so often. He explained that the extra play keeps him sharp and allows for some club testing while visiting amazing destinations. He specifically praised the golf courses in Latin America and Mexico, noting that his family has been visiting the region for about 15 years.
The 120-player field at Vidanta Vallarta includes Clark as the headliner, yet he is not the only one with a new caddie this week.
Clark won the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills earlier this year, adding to his 2023 victory at Los Angeles Country Club. From October 29 to November 1, the event takes place on a par-71 course offering a $6 million purse. If Brendan can help his brother navigate the Vidanta Vallarta course, the payoff could be a significant boost for the couple’s future plans.
