Terry Bradshaw refuses to accept the nasty rumors swirling around his former broadcast partners. The Hall of Famer knows both men well and sees a different story than the one playing out in headlines. He reached out to Joe Buck directly to clear the air before the Monday night show even aired.

A Text Message Changes Everything

Bradshaw didn’t wait for press releases or vague leaks to form his opinion; he went straight to the source. “I talked to Buck via text and told him I don’t assume everything I’m reading is correct,” Bradshaw said. This direct contact shows the old guard still values their bond over the drama. Bradshaw worked with the duo at Fox Sports for twenty years before they moved to ESPN. He knows their characters better than any reporter sitting in a studio.

The reports claim the split is purely about cash. Bradshaw admits the money angle is the main topic of conversation right now. “(The reporting has been) it’s about money,” Bradshaw revealed. Buck signed a massive six-year deal worth around $108 million to stay at ESPN. Aikman has been waiting for his own contract talks to finish. The Athletic reported that Aikman’s side sought a new deal in the same neighborhood as Buck’s and was rebuffed, with ESPN pausing talks until after the Super Bowl. That pay gap seems to be the root of the tension.

Bradshaw Doesn’t Buy The Hate

Even with the dollar signs flashing, Bradshaw thinks the narrative is wrong. He sees Troy Aikman as a man who would never act out of petty spite. “I find that hard to believe because Troy Aikman is not like that. He’s not like that. My understanding right now is things are okay,” Bradshaw said. The broadcasts have continued without any visible on-screen issues. The chemistry still works for the viewers even if the business side is messy.

The timing of Buck’s deal seems to be the real problem. Bradshaw explained that the two men were supposed to enter ESPN as a package. “I have heard that they were going to go into ESPN together and get a new deal together,” Bradshaw added. The fact that Buck got his contract first created a rift where none had existed before. It wasn’t a lack of friendship that caused the split, but a lack of coordination.

The Final Call on Monday Night

Greg Olsen has been mentioned as the potential replacement for the booth. If the partnership ends, the 2027 Super Bowl could be their last game together. That is a long way to go for a team that just signed a new deal. Bradshaw’s voice carries weight because he has seen these deals before.
